Pre-K
Readiness skills are introduced through art activities, songs, parties, cooking as well as the discovery approach. (Our field trips are generally associated with the social studies or science unit of that particular time of year.)
The religion program we use is called I Am Special. This program respects and makes use of a child's natural curiosity. It encourages them to wonder, to explore, and to celebrate the life a loving God has given them.
The following schedule exemplifies our usual daily schedule for our morning class:
| 9:00 - 10:15 A.M. | One-On-One Activity | 12:15 - 1:30 P.M. |
| 10:15 - 10:30 A.M. | Clean-Up Time | 1:30 - 1:45 P.M. |
| 10:30 - 10:45 A.M. | Bathroom Recess and Story Time | 1:45 - 2:00 P.M. |
| 10:45 - 11:00 A.M. | Snack Time | 2:00 - 2:15 P.M. |
| 11:00 - 11:20 A.M. | Circle Time | 2:15 - 2:30 P.M. |
| 11:20 - 11:30 A.M. | Prepare to go home | 2:30 - 2:45 P.M. |
Free Play The most important lessons learned during this period of time are to show love and respect for each other, to show care for each other and the classroom, to share with and cooperate with each other, and to apologize to each other when wrong.
One-On-One Activity Time is provided daily for a readiness project to be completed by the children with the help of the teacher. Projects will vary according to age.
Clean-Up-Time All children are expected and encouraged to participate. Group cooperation is emphasized. Sorting skills are practiced daily as they put the toys away properly.
Snack Time We discuss our many blessings and in appreciation the children thank God for them. By assigning individual jobs, independence is developed when the children share the responsibility of preparing the table for snack time. They are given the opportunity to share food and practice using proper manners.
Circle Time Number and name recognition (during the fall semester), recognition of phone numbers and addresses (during the spring semester), the names of the days of the week, the name of the months, the date and the year, and changes in weather, as well as letter recognition (starting soon), are discussed and practiced daily.
Story Time Listening skills and self-control are emphasized. An interest in reading is encouraged. Big books will be used to develop reading readiness.
Group Activity The activities change daily and are performed by all as a group. Group discussions, games and songs related to color, letter, or number recognition, practice in following directions, are examples of some activities performed at this time.
Prepare To Go Home The children are encouraged to dress themselves properly for the weather.
Show and Tell This is the usual group activity on Wednesday and Thursday. The children will gain experience and develop confidence at speaking in front of a group. A schedule will follow.
Field Trips These will be done according to the time of the year.
Homework Homework will be given once a week for the four year olds. It will be a cut and paste activity involving shapes, colors, letters and sounds.
Open communication between home and school is encouraged. Since transportation to and from the school is provided by the parents, many opportunities to confer are offered. Please feel free to ask questions, discuss problems, or make comments at any time. In December we will have a formal Parent/Teacher Conference. A Progress Report will be discussed for our 4 year olds. Three year olds will be discussed on an as needed basis. However, these can be arranged at any time if the need arises.
