Kindergarten
The goal of the all-day Kindergarten program is to help each child in the transition from informal learning to the more formal school setting. The Kindergarten classroom is equipped with an assortment of manipulatives that provide hands-on experience in all subject areas.
A print rich environment supports whole language development. Creative expression is promoted through puppetry, storytelling, music, dance, art, and cooking. Students participate in several trips a year.
Math By using manipulatives and concrete learning experiences, the students are introduced to basic geometric shapes, patterning, number concepts, sorting, measuring, ordering, telling time and problem solving. They also complete simple addition and subtraction problems using manipulatives.
Reading Readiness Through varied activities in a whole-language environment, students develop listening skills, following directions, oral expression, written language, comprehension, letter recognition and phonics.
Religion Children are introduced to Jesus through stories in the New Testament. The family's value system is enhanced and extended with prayer being stressed as an important part of daily Christian life. Kindergarten children also participate in all liturgies and paraliturgies.
Science Through careful use of hands-on experiments and real life situations, the children explore:
- Life Sciences - living things
- Physical Sciences - weather, the earth and its neighbors
- Health and Safety - human development and nutrition
Social Studies Children receive an introduction to map skills, learn about units of communities, and go on field trips to observe firsthand what is discussed in class.
