Junior High
Religion The focus of the junior high is the history of the Catholic Church. The basic beliefs of the Church are stressed through study units include guidance family living, respect for life, Catholic sexuality and social living. Catholic sexuality and social living.
Reading Varied literature appreciation and vocabulary growth are reinforced. Students leam to evaluate, discuss analytically and critique passages from selected classics.
Language Arts The basic curriculum includes grammar, corrective English, punctuation and diagramming. Composition is reinforced, stressing persuasive, narrative and descriptive essays, letter writing and poetry. Literature encompasses short stories, novels, dramas, mythology, debates and speeches.
Science Program in grades seven and eight gives prominence to an integrated study of biology, physics, life science, the solar system, meteorology, chemistry and physical science.
Mathematics Pre-Algebra is introduced in preparation for high school math. In addition ratio, proportion, problem solving, critical thinking, statistics, geometry and probability are highlighted. Advanced math, grade nine, is offered to qualifying students who will take the New York State Regents.
Social Studies The scope of grade seven centers on American history from early explorers to the Civil War. World geography, map skills and current events are also stressed. Eighth grade studies include a continuation of American history, post-Civil War to the present. A portion of a semester is devoted to an in-depth view of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
